At a recent Gate Check for one of our clients, the Invergold Compliance Team found what appeared to be a large cut in the sidewall of a tyre.
The driver had been told by a local tyre company that the damage was not actually a cut, but was caused by scuffing against the kerb, and was safe to use.
On closer inspection, it could be seen that the tyre had actually started to separate at the outer layer – so we immediately contacted one of the tyre specialists that we work with for an expert opinion. He advised us that the tyre was not safe or legal to use, and the vehicle was taken off the road until it could be rectified.
